Rema, Diamond Platnumz And More: Winners Announced For 2023 MTV EMA Awards

Winners for the 2023 MTV EMA Awards have been announced.

The winners were announced on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Winners included African music stars Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania and Rema from Nigeria.

They won the Best African Act and Best Afrobeats Artist respectively.

This follows the organizer’s promise to announce winners in the various categories despite its inability to hold the awards show due to “the volatility of world events.”

Initially scheduled to be held at Paris Nord Villepinte, MTV announced a cancellation later. In a statement, it said;

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.

The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”

The 2023 MTV EMA had a brand-new category called Best Afrobeats, with Asake, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido and Rema all in the running.
