Kumasi Rotary Club cuts sod for water, toilet facilities at Brofoyedru D/A school

Rotary Club of Kumasi and its partners have cut sod for the construction of a water and toilet facilities at the Brofoyeduru D/A Primary school in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti region.

Over the years, the teachers and students of the school risked their lives crossing the busy highway to access the toilets and water facilities.

The situation according to authorities at the school hampers effective and safe teaching and learning.

The Rotary club of Kumasi and the Calgary Stampede Rotary Club of Canada have teamed up to construct 12 boreholes and 75 micro flush toilet facilities worth 70,000 dollars for some basic schools in the Ashanti Region.

The initiative aligns with Rotary International’s focus on water and sanitation, one of its seven key areas of engagement with communities globally.

Club President, Nana Afia Osei Asamoah explained their motivation to fix the sanitation challenges at the school.

“As a club, we are always willing to support humanity. We decided to offer support to the school after they submitted their request which was in consistent with the objectives of rotary such as provision of WASH facilities, economic empowerment, child health, among others,” she said.

Headmaster of Brofoyedru D/A, Asare Bediako commended the clubs for their aid to put up a washroom facility and a borehole for the school.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2025 and expected to be handed over to school’s authorities.

The 2024/25 Rotary year is under the theme “Magic of Rotary”.
