Adelheid Babatz Nyarko London: Ghanaian Midwife Called To The Ghana Bar In 2025 Dies

Social media is awash with the sad news of the passing of a Ghanaian Health Service midwife who transitioned to legal practice, Adelheid Babatz Nyarko London.

 

She is said to have died in the early morning of Sunday, August 17, 2025, after a short illness.

 

She was a senior midwifery officer at St. Michael’s Catholic Hospital in Kumasi.

 

A few months ago, the world celebrated her for her resilience after she was called to the Ghana Bar.

 

Before the untimely passing, Adelheid chalked up some firsts.

 

As the first female lawyer in her family, she also became the first Ghana Health Service midwife to transition to legal practice.

 

She described her journey as “a unique intersection of healthcare and law.”

 

In 2019, Adelheid began her law studies while still working part-time as a midwife, balancing healthcare duties with academic pursuits.

 

In 2021, she completed a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana, focusing on healthcare law and human rights.

She continued to the Ghana Law School, where she completed the professional law course and training, developing practical legal skills while maintaining connections to healthcare advocacy.

 

In 2025, Adelheid Babatz Nyarko London was officially called to the Ghana Bar, offering her the opportunity to practice law in Ghana.

 

Adelheid was focused on developing a practice that bridges healthcare knowledge with legal expertise, with special interest in medical law, women’s rights, and access to justice.
