UK-based Ghanaian artist Danny Lampo has expressed his disappointment over the limited media attention given to Ghanaian musicians living and working in the diaspora. According to the “Ebony” hitmaker, despite the tremendous efforts and achievements of artists abroad, the Ghanaian media often fails to recognize or celebrate their contributions to the music industry.
Speaking on the matter, Danny Lampo emphasized,
“We the artists in the diaspora don’t really get the media attention back home as we deserve.”
Lampo, who has been a strong voice for Ghanaian music on the international stage, believes that artists in the diaspora play a crucial role in promoting Ghana’s culture and sound globally. Many of them, he said, continue to push Afrobeats, highlife, and other Ghanaian genres across Europe and beyond, often without the support or acknowledgment of local media houses.
He noted that while several diaspora-based musicians are making significant waves performing on big stages, collaborating with global artists, and winning awards their achievements rarely receive coverage in Ghana’s mainstream entertainment platforms.
“It’s sad sometimes because we are doing a lot out here to put Ghana on the map,” Lampo continued. “We use our own resources to promote the Ghanaian brand internationally, but when we need that recognition or support from home, it’s like we are invisible.”
Danny Lampo further called on Ghanaian media outlets to extend their coverage beyond local borders, highlighting the importance of showcasing the global successes of Ghanaian creatives. He believes that by bridging the gap between home-based and diaspora artists, the entire entertainment ecosystem can grow stronger and more united.
He added that the Ghanaian entertainment industry can benefit greatly from stronger collaborations between local and foreign-based musicians. Increased visibility and acknowledgment of diaspora artists would also inspire young talents abroad to remain connected to their roots and contribute to Ghana’s cultural export.
Known as “The Berkshire King”, Danny Lampo has consistently represented Ghana proudly through his music, events, and cultural initiatives in the United Kingdom. His works continue to receive appreciation from fans across Europe, and he remains hopeful that Ghanaian media and entertainment stakeholders will soon recognize and support the efforts of all artists keeping the nation’s flag flying high abroad.
Danny Lampo is a UK-based Ghanaian musician and performer celebrated for his unique fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, and highlife sounds. Over the years, he has earned acclaim for his energetic stage presence, dedication to promoting Ghanaian culture, and collaborations with both Ghanaian and international artists.
