Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated that, despite being the leader of the opposition in Parliament, he is currently allowing the government some leeway to operate without encountering strong resistance.
He believes that the time for a more aggressive opposition has not yet come.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin recalled the intense opposition his party faced while in government, highlighting how the then-minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) made governance challenging with their relentless resistance.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposing them yet.
“I have given them room to start their government,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin’s remarks suggest that while he is currently cautious, a more vigorous opposition may be on the horizon as circumstances change.
