‘That’s bachelor pad level placement,’ one person admonished.
People online are assuring President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, that they want to help the first couple after seeing what some have labeled a “chaotic” room arrangement for television viewing.
The wave of interior decorating advice was prompted by a photo that the president shared on X, formerly Twitter, while watching the final night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday, Aug. 22. Vice President Kamala Harris accepted her party’s nomination for president later that evening at the United Center, which hosted this year’s convention in Chicago, Ill.
In the photo, the president and first lady stood side by side in a small room, their bodies turned together toward a TV that was positioned on a table in front of the room’s fireplace. Biden held a phone in his hand as he inspected the TV screen, which showed crowds gathered inside the United Center just a few days after he passed the baton on to Harris through his own remarks before event attendees.
Jill and I just spoke to @KamalaHarris — we can’t wait to watch her accept this historic nomination.

“Jill and I just spoke to @KamalaHarris — we can’t wait to watch her accept this historic nomination,” Biden, 81, wrote in a tweet accompanying the photo. “Kamala and [Democratic vice presidential candidate] Tim [Walz] will inspire a generation and lead us into the future.”
But Biden’s message wasn’t what fans noticed when they looked at the picture—it was the layout of the room where he and the first lady were photographed standing.
“Absolutely chaotic tv placement,” one X user who retweeted the photo wrote.
“That’s bachelor pad level placement,” another X user agreed as others began offering interior decorating tips and critiques.
“Also, the fireplace being SO big makes the spacious alcove feel cramped,” one person noted as another said the snapshot made the president and first lady look “like WWE wrestlers watching the show backstage.”
“Don’t throw any wood into that fireplace,” one X user warned, adding, “You’ll burn the TV.”
Since the president and first lady clearly did not watch the convention inside the White House, many social media users questioned where they viewed the festivities. As some pointed out, the Bidens traveled to California after the president’s Aug. 19 speech in the Windy City. According to The Los Angeles Times, they stayed with Democratic donor Joe Kiani at his estate in Santa Barbara County.
“I believe they are in California on vacation and this set up is only to accommodate dnc viewing,” one person with knowledge about the Bidens’ post-DNC plans tweeted as another agreed the TV was “Probably just set up there for the purpose of viewing the convention.”
“I imagine that TV was brought into a large common room that perhaps didn’t have a TV so that multiple people could watch,” another person suggested.
